Put Some South In Your Mouth!
Written by JP Ace

On a diet? Forget it. Trying to eat healthier? Throw that idea out the window.  Looking to lose a few pounds? Don't come around here then. Johnny Rebs' in Long Beach is authentic Southern food with Southern hospitality. When you look around, the restaurant looks like a glorified Southern shack. Outside there's a huge bathtub with a flower garden growing out of it. Peanut shells lie all over the worn wooden floors. The door handles to the restaurant are made with huge bent metal spoons! When you go to the bathroom there are sounds of chickens, roosters, cows and other various farm animals in the background.

Johnny Rebs is not for you health nuts (well, maybe once in a while)! In the South, the food is served to you in "large and in charge" portions. Eating is a serious business in the South!

Breakfast items and fixins' include farm fresh omelets; fluffy, home-baked buttermilk biscuit sandwiches, scrambled egg dishes, and sinfully delicious flapjacks and french toast. Johnny Rebs' exclusives include the Ragin' Cajun: cajun sausage, cheese, mushrooms, and BBQ sauce all whipped up into a delightful omelet, and the Elvis Pancakes: Flapjacks with sweet banana, smothered in Maple-Peanut Butter Syrup. Elvis would surely rise from the dead for these here. No Southern breakfast would be complete without the biscuits and gravy, of course. Ain't no better way to start the day!

Lunch and dinner options are heavy on the homestyle cookin' and not to mention the portions! The pretty impressive appetizer and starters menu include: smoked chicken wings, hushpuppies, sweet potato fries, home-fried potato chips, and even fried green tomatoes and fried okra! Throw some ranch dressing on the side and we have a happy crowd! BBQ favorites such as: baby back pork ribs, barbeque chicken, barbeque beef brisket, barbeque beef ribs, pulled pork, smoked ham and smoked hot links give Lucielle's (another Southern BBQ style restaurant chain) a run for their money! Johnny Rebs smokes their own meats, sometimes for 10-12 hours. Other Southern favorites include: freshwater catfish (blackened and fried to perfection), Southern-fried chicken, chicken fried steak, pork chops and gravy, blackened prime rib, sirloin steak, cajun sausage sandwiches, and many other choices that go along well with many of their fixins' of mac n' cheese, collared greens, fried pickles, and black-eyed peas. Armed with a huge variety of Southern food, Johnny Rebs is a restaurant that boasts great service and hospitality for very reasonable prices.

For those who love salads, don't fret! Johnny Rebs also serves mouth-watering salads such as: catfish caesar, smoked bbq chicken, and fried chicken and Texas caviar over greens. All served with a side of piping-hot cornbread!

With all that food you're going to need some Dixie beer, sweet tea, or some homestyle lemonade to wash it down with. As if that wasn't enough, Johnny Rebs has truely decadent and indulgent desserts such as: fried Mississippi mud-pie, key lime pie, Kimber's fried apple pie, and everyones favorite drop biscuit Peach cobbler or chocolate cobbler. I swear you can probably die after all that glorious food!

You have to see the restaurant and food selections to get a feel of what the South has to offer. You can check out their menu and 4 of their locations (Orange, CA; Victorville, CA; Long Beach, CA; and Bellflower, CA) online at http://www.johnnyrebs.com. Good food, good service...nothing beats the Southern hospitality of Johnny Rebs!
